Course components and relevant research

Introduction

This section outlines the basic course components (online organization and design, syllabus, instructional design and delivery, content, assignments, assessments, communication, learner support and resources, and appropriate and effective use of technology) and indicates relevant research that provides some indicators as to the related learning expectations.

The information presented here more accurately identifies attributes or general characteristics that should be present in the components. This information does not describe the unique elements for each component.

Each course component is listed with characteristics from contemporary research. While it may appear to not provide a framework to develop an online course, it does provide a listing of the attributes, or characteristics, that each component should emulate.
